To celebrate the growth of our martial art into a new age, a special Kang Duk Won "Millennium" emblem was created. The emblem follows the same general pattern of the traditional Kang Duk Won patch. The fist and the burst, which symbolize enlightenment, have been refined. The burst around the fist has eight points, representing the original number of points in the Kang Duk Won emblem. The number eight carries much significance in the martial arts. Eight palgays and eight gyups before black belt are examples of the importance of the number eight. Also, when the number 8 is turned horizontal, it is the symbol of infinity. The wreath around the burst is symbolic of the achievements and recognition gained over the past 31 years by members of American Kang Duk Won. The banners signify the continued commitment to the basic principles of the association. This commitment has remained strong and continues to grow into the 21st century. The wreath, two banners, the fist and burst also represents the "celebration of breaking into the new millennium."
